And I will live for You
Tuesday, July 31, 2012; ( 2:25 AM )
Now it came to pass, in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Bethlehem, Judah, went to dwell in the country of Moab, he and his wife and his two sons. The name of the man was Elimelech, the name of his wife was Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon and Chilion—Ephrathites of Bethlehem, Judah. And they went to the country of Moab and remained there. Then Elimelech, Naomi’s husband, died; and she was left, and her two sons. Now they took wives of the women of Moab: the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth. And they dwelt there about ten years. Then both Mahlon and Chilion also died; so the woman survived her two sons and her husband. Naomi Returns with Ruth Then she arose with her daughters-in-law that she might return from the country of Moab, for she had heard in the country of Moab that the Lord had visited His people by giving them bread. Therefore she went out from the place where she was, and her two daughters-in-law with her; and they went on the way to return to the land of Judah. And Naomi said to her two daughters-in-law, “Go, return each to her mother’s house. The Lord deal kindly with you, as you have dealt with the dead and with me. The Lord grant that you may find rest, each in the house of her husband.” So she kissed them, and they lifted up their voices and wept. And they said to her, “Surely we will return with you to your people.” But Naomi said, “Turn back, my daughters; why will you go with me? Are there still sons in my womb, that they may be your husbands? Turn back, my daughters, go—for I am too old to have a husband. If I should say I have hope, if I should have a husband tonight and should also bear sons, 1would you wait for them till they were grown? Would you restrain yourselves from having husbands? No, my daughters; for it grieves me very much for your sakes that the hand of the Lord has gone out against me!” Then they lifted up their voices and wept again; and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her. And she said, “Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods; return after your sister-in-law.” But Ruth said: “Entreat me not to leave you, Or to turn back from following after you; For wherever you go, I will go; And wherever you lodge, I will lodge; Your people shall be my people, And your God, my God. Where you die, I will die, And there will I be buried. The Lord do so to me, and more also, If anything but death parts you and me.” When she saw that she was determined to go with her, she stopped speaking to her. The beautiful story of a woman name Ruth(Ruth 1). Orpah and Ruth both cried out that they will return with Naomi to Moab;but Naomi went her way. Naomi said that Orpah had " gone back to her people and to her gods". Orpah had every reason to turn back, now that her husband died. She had no more life there. As with Ruth. Ruth was a Moabite, someone that was not an Israelites. After her husband died, she had every reason to leave everything and stay. But she clung on to Naomi. Naomi tried her means to ask her to leave. But she clung on to her. Ruth 1 :16-17 is one of the most beautiful verse that we all know from the bible. It was even integrated now as the wedding vow. But it was that persistency and conviction that Ruth was changed. Ruth clung on to Naomi when there was no reason to. Every possible thoughts , every possible solution, turned to leaving Naomi and staying. But Ruth didn't. Against all odds, she stayed with Naomi. When Ruth make that statement, Naomi stop resisting Ruth from following her, and allow her to continue following. It says Naomi stopped talking to her. But they returned to Bethelehem, to the place of God. And Ruth life was changed. Ruth found Boaz, and married him. The descendants of Ruth were David and ultimately Jesus. Just because of that sheer persistency to cling on to Naomi. And what more can we say about our walk with God? Will you be that persistent? To the extent when every possible solution is to leave and to run away, when everything in the world is rock bottom, where no hope can be seem, where the reason to leave Him is so valid, so understandable. Will you leave like Orpah, or will you be persistent , to the extent that you will cling on to Him like Ruth? David said "And I will in the house of the Lord forever"(Psalm 23). I want to make that statement too. Regardless of whatever things or mess, I will cling on to Him. I really like the song "I give You my heart". It described the above statement. The chorus goes like: Lord, I give You my heart I give You my song I live for you alone Every breath that I take Every moment I'm awake Lord, have Your ways in me And that's where we would usually stop singing. But if you listened to the song by Hillsong, there is a bridge part that we don't sing at all. The best part of the song usually is the bridge. The bridge goes like: And I will live And I will live for you The bridge just repeats this lines again. I really like this part of the song and it reduces me to tears whenever I sing this out. I dont know why I cried but I meant every word I sing. And I really want to cling on to God no matter what. Entreat me not to leave You Or to turn back from following after You; For where You want me to go, I will go Where you lodge, I will lodge. Your people shall be my people And You are my God And whatever You want me to allow to die in me, I will die And it will be buried Let nothing, absolutely nothing parts me from you If anything but death parts me from you. And that was since april. When You reminded me of it again recently. Lalalala. |
